Does every retaining wall need drainage?
Most retaining walls require a way to relieve water pressure behind the wall. The exact system depends on the wall type, soil, height, location and approved design.
When does a retaining wall require engineering or a permit?
Requirements vary by jurisdiction, wall height, surcharge, slope conditions and proximity to structures or property lines. Engineering or permits may be required before work begins.
Can you replace a leaning retaining wall?
Yes, depending on access and site conditions. The failed wall generally must be removed so the footing, reinforcement, drainage and backfill can be reconstructed correctly.
What is the difference between a French drain and a solid drain line?
A French drain collects subsurface water through perforated pipe and drain rock. A solid line conveys collected water without allowing surrounding soil water to enter the pipe.
Can drainage be added to an existing yard?
Often yes. Available slope, outlet location, underground utilities, access and existing improvements must first be reviewed.
Can a drain connect to an existing system?
